"A me le Guardie!"
The military tradition of the 2nd Grenadiers started with the old Guards Regiment constituted on 18th April 1659 and so it is linked to that one of the 1st Grenadiers.
Founded on 13th July 1744 as Regiment of Sardinia, in April 1816 it became Guards Hunters Regiment and in 1831 2nd Hunters Regiment, included in the "Guards" Brigade with the 1st Grenadiers Regiment.
In 1926, after having retook the name of 2nd "Grenadiers of Sardinia" Regiment, it was assigned to the 21st Infantry Brigade; in 1939, along with the 1st Grenadiers and 13th Artillery Regiments, it entered the 22nd "Grenadiers of Sardinia" Division that was dissolved on 10th September 1943 in Rome.
After the reorganization of the Army, by transformation of the 2nd Battalion of the dissolved 1st Regiment, the 2nd "Cengio" Mechanized Grenadiers Battalion was formed and received the Flag and the traditions of the Regiment. On 19th October 1992 the Battalion entered the reconstituted 2nd "Grenadiers of Sardinia" Regiment and in 1996 it was moved to Spoleto (PG).
The War Flag is decorated with a Military Order of Italy, a Golden Medal, three Silver Medals and a Bronze Medal to the Military Valour and a Bronze Medal to the Army Valour. Today it is preserved by the Brigade Commander, awaiting the Regiment will be moved to Spoleto (PG).
