"Altius tendo"
On 1st November 1882 the 3rd Alpine Regiment was constituted with the "Val Stura", "Val Maira" and "Monti Lessini" Battalions. In 1886 the dependent battalions were named "Fenestrelle", "Exilles" and "2nd Susa". Employed in Libya between 1911 and 1912, it also participated in the First World War.
In 1921 it was included in the Alpine Division that in 1923 became Alpine Group and in 1926 became Alpine Brigade. Since 1935 it was included in the 1st "Taurinense" Alpine Division with the 4th and 1st Alpine Artillery Regiments and it participated in the conquest of Ethiopia.
After having fought in Greece and protected the Balkans, the great unit was dissolved in September 1943 in Montenegro.
On 25th June 1944 the 3rd Alpine Regiment was reconstituted for the 1st Brigade of the Italian Corps of Liberation, but on 30th September it was dissolved to form the Special Infantry Regiment. After the reorganization of the Army, the "Susa" Alpine Battalion was given the Flag and the traditions of the 3rd Regiment by decree of 12th November.
On 23rd November 1993 the Battalion was included in the reconstituted 3rd Alpine Regiment.
