With its proud "Borgo Dalmazzo", "Dronero" and "Saluzzo" Battalions, heirs of the heroic traditions, extraordinary virtues and strong temperament of the sons of Cuneense and of the Apuani Monts, the 2nd Alpine Regiment showed itself as determined and tempered tool of war, in the difficult battle on the front of Doti and among difficulties, obstacles, enemy traps, territory and weather conditions, it could resist and gain the recognition of the Nation. With heroism and dedication to the duty, it ended the experience between Doti and Oskol with a desperate resistance until the sacrifice of its Flag. Trying to repel the enemy attacks, on 10th May the “Saluzzo” Battalion launched audaciously to the conquest of the peak of Mount Cukla that strengthened and defended against the enemy artillery. (4th – 10th May 1916).

Since the beginning of the war, with great valour the "Val Varaita" and "Val Maira" Battalions contributed to conquer and defend tenaciously important positions of Pal Piccolo, Freikofel and Pal Grande (24th May – 4th July 1915) during hard and bloody crashes. Extraordinary example of valour and military virtues, the "Val Maira", "Mount Argentera" and "Moviso" Battalions resisting tenaciously in spite of many losses and maintaining important positions in Monte Fior and Castelgomberto. (6th, 7th, 8th June 1916).

The "Val Maira" Battalion, with tenacity and valour, resisted for three days to an enemy Division maintaining the control over the trenches thanks to the heroic sacrifice of its Alpines, Counterattacking every hour, it managed to stop the invader on the line where it had to resist (Val Calcino, 11th – 13th December 1917). It had already given proof of its abnegation and courage on Mount Pasubio during difficult moments of battle. (18th – 20th October 1916).

Suddenly called in Albania from the Western front, its battalions stopped the advance of the enemy. If attacked, it counterattacked and through its aggressive superiority it contributed to the success of the battle. Ready for the offensive, on the Yugoslavian front, it contributed to scatter the defence of the new enemy. In five difficult months of a hard campaign in Albania, it reaffirmed the glorious actions of the "DOI" in Castelgomberto, Mount Fior and Mount Grappa. (Val Shushica – Dibra, 15th December 1949 – 11th April 1941).

The Regiment imposed on the overseas territory thanks to its spirit and courage showed in the decisive battle for the destiny of the campaign. Extraordinary example of valour and abnegation. Decree of 5th March 1885
For the generous actions aiming to put out a fire in Bersezio during the night between 18th and 19th August 1883. (To the Valle Stura Battalion).
Silver Medal to the Merit
Decree of 5th June 1910
It distinguished for hard work, courage and abnegation in giving rescue to the populations hit by the earthquake in the regions of Calabria and Sicily on 28th December 1908.
Bronze Medal to the Merit of the Red Cross
As symbol of recognition for its generous contribute in rescue operations of the Italian Red Cross in favour of the populations hit by a flood in November 1994.
