In fifteen days of violent battles to break the enemy encirclement with the infantrymen of the Division, the artillerymen of the 17th "Sforzesca" Artillery contributed with heroism and sacrifice to open the way to the victory for the infantry. (Russian front, 18th – 31st December 1942).

For the good and heroic conduct of its batteries that, in spite of losses of men and materials, from the advanced line of the infantries opposed with all the available weapons to the enemy advance. Decree of 27th October 1950
Superbe artillery Regiment employed for several days in violent battles on Don as well as in Jagodnij and Tschebotarewskij, it shared with infantrymen efforts, sacrifices and glories, limiting the enemy offensive. Forced to several retreats, it did not cede the pieces and with tenacity it gave more support to the infantrymen. Proud of the ancient traditions, it consecrating the nobility of its mission synthetized in the motto "with the infantryman and for the infantryman", confirming the glory and the dedication to the Homeland.
