
"Con forza ed ardimento"
The Regiment was constituted on 1st November 1888 in Novara. It participated in the colonial wars and in the 1st World War. During the 2nd World War (1940) the Regiment was deployed on the French front, included in the "Sforzesca" Division. In 1941 the Regiment participated in the campaign of Albania and the its Flag was awarded with the first Silver Medal to the Military Valour for its heroic conduct. In 1942 the Regiment was motorized and employed with the "Sforzesca" Division on the Russian front (river Don) where it shared efforts and sacrifices with the infantrymen, earning the second Silver Medal to the Military Valour. For its heroic conduct during the retreat in 1943, its War Flag was awarded with the third Silver Medal to the Military Valour.
The Regiment was reconstituted on 1st January 1947 in Novara and included in the "Cremona" Division. On 1st July 1953 it was renamed 17th Artillery Group and moved to Lodi, except for a Group that was located in Ghedi. On 1st May 1961 the Unit Command was moved to Savona with the detachments of Lodi and Ghedi. On 1st April 1964 it was dissolved and reconstituted in Bologna by transformation of the 3rd anti-aircrafts artillery Group and it was named of 17th Anti-Aircrafts Light Artillery Regiment, with the detached groups: the 1st in Villafranca di Verona, the 2nd in Istrana, the 3rd in Lodi and the 4th in Ghedi.
On 9th September 1972 the Regiment Command was moved from Bologna to Brescia. On 31st October 1975, after the reorganization of the campaign Army, the whole unit was dissolved to be reconstituted the following day in Villafranca di Verona with the name of 17th "Sforzesca" Anti-aircrafts Artillery Group. Its 1st Battery was located in Villafranca, the 2nd in Ghedi and the 3rd in Istrana.
On 15th December 1993 it was dissolved and the 2nd Group of the 121st Anti-aircrafts Light Artillery Regiment, located in Mestre, took its name and its War Flag. On 8th September 1996 the 17th "Sforzesca" Anti-aicrafts Light Artillery Group was organized as an anti-aircrafts artillery regiment (equipped with mixed armament SKYGUARD ASPIDE – 40/70). On 30th June 1997 the Regiment was moved to RIMINI and was organized as anti-aircrafts artillery regiment (with homogeneous armament SKYGUARD ASPIDE).
Since 2001 it is located in Sabaudia (LT).
