It has originated from the merger of the Medical Corps and the Veterinary Corps; its tradition dates back to 1833 when Carlo Alberto reorganized the services of the Sardinian Army.
The two Corps have already had a common path because in 1873 the Veterinary Service, just constituted, was at the dependencies of the Military Medical High Council.
The Corps grew in importance in relation to the awareness that saving a life on the battlefield is a duty of a Commander.
It tried to improve the intervention capabilities and first aid during the First World War, even if the figure shows a balance of terrible days of struggle.
Today the Officers of the Medical Corps of the Army have got a fundamental importance in the preventive medical care for our Contingents deployed in territories with high epidemic risk. Its work is also important to reconstruction the social connective tissue in the areas controlled by multinational forces.
