The Engineer is one of the most important Corps dedicated to the combat support.
It can operate at the forefront, also preceding the Infantry, opening breaches in the defence against the enemy and carrying out demolitions to slow the enemy advance. It can pour pontoon bridges on the rivers, build suspension or multi-span bridges, restore rail links, open roads and build camps.
Its great versatility make it an instrument with multiple capabilities; its versatility has also determined the introduction of some Engineer regiments in the Brigades of our Army, replacing the pre-existent Sappers Engineer Companies.
Its technical capabilities and abnegation, the typical characteristics of the Sappers, have characterized the history of the Engineer that has been often employed in interventions supporting the population affected by natural disasters.
