In the modern Armies, the Artillery is the Combat Support. Its weapons, cannons and howitzers or tracked vehicles permit to hit the enemy lines up to 40 km away. The employment of the Artillery has varied upon the time with the acquisition of more sophisticated and efficient materials. Today the increase of the ranges led up to the constitution of units able to enter and control the territory and acquire targets in depth.
Moreover the development of new forms of battle, such as chemical and nuclear weapons, led up to additional tasks for the Artillery that has recently changed one of its units into a regiment for the Bacteriological and Chemical Nuclear Defence. That surveillance function, research and targets acquisition along with the capability of operating to detect contaminated areas have made the Artillery able to face tasks such as peace support operations.
Artillery regiments continue to alternate in the Balkan theatre where control activities on the territory are carried out. The Artillery combines technology, intelligence, heart and courage, always and everywhere.
