"Guards to me"
The Grenadiers specialty originates from the Guards Regiment created in 1659 by Duke Carlo Emanuele II.
Dissolved in 1798 and reconstituted in 1814, it links its history to the current "Grenadiers of Sardinia" Brigade. Later other grenadiers units have been constituted: "Grenadiers of Lombardia" (3rd and 4th Regiment), "Grenadiers of Naples" (5th and 6th Regiment), and "Grenadiers of Tuscany" (7th and 8th Regiment) that have then become "Lombardia" (73rd and 74th Regiment) "Naples" (75th and 76th Regiment) and "Tuscany" (77th and 78th Regiment) Brigades. There has also been a "Grenadiers of Savoy" Brigade with the 10th and 11th Regiments.
At present there is only the 1st "Grenadiers of Sardinia" Regiment on two battalions and its Flag awarded with a Knight Cross of the Italian Military Order, 2 Gold Medals, 3 Silver Medals, a Bronze Medal to the Military Valour and a Silver Medal to Merit.
