The "Piave" barracks is situated inside the ancient medieval walls of Padova, in the area where the Saint Agostino Church (erected between 1227 and 1303) and the Convent of the Dominican Friars stood in the early nineteenth century.
A precious fragment of a fresco representing the "Piety" testifies that period and it is possible to see the work in the Padova barracks, location for French, Russian and Austrian Military Units.
After the Unification of Italy it became a cavalry barracks and at the end of the Second World War it hosted: Military Commissariat organs; since 1985 the Military District of Padova; since 1990 the Conscription, Recruitment and Mobilization Command of the Eastern-Northern Military Region; since 2002 the Completion Forces Recruitment Command that on 30th June 2007 was changed into Army Military Command of Veneto.
Since 1st October 2013 the "Piave" barracks is the headquarters of the Northern Operational Forces Command.
