It confirmed its reputation with great courage in a difficult series of offensive operations. Called for the battle by the enemy on the southern bank of Don, it flanked its squadrons to the exhausted units ordering the enemies to respect the battalions. In mission it got out of the way with sabers and muskets, defending an important stronghold against the offensives of the enemy. In fighting it showed heroism and ambition. Decree of 5th June 1920
With high valour and spirit of sacrifice it opposed the enemy advance to Tagliamento. Forced to barricade in Pozzuolo del Friuli, it competed for the possession of the territory resisting for 24 hours until when it got out the way between the enemy infantries. Pozzuolo del Friuli – 29th-30th October 1917.

During ten months of war operations, in attacking and pursuing and in defensive battles, it dominated the hostility of the environment with tenacity and spirit of sacrifice, opposing the enemy with courage in difficult logistic and weather conditions. It gave proof of its traditional valour when, in a particular sector of the front and in an uncertain phase of the battle worsen by the rigid winter, it limited the impact of the enemy forces with the help of the allies. Russian front (Nipro – Uspenowka – Roja Dejewka – Krimojtorez – Gorlowka – Samara, August 1941 – May 1942).

In the earthquake disaster of Friuli, it promptly intervened to rescue people with courage and human solidarity, by helping the wounded and the survivors and removing the ruins. The support provided increased the appreciation and gratitude of the Authorities and the population. Friuli, 6th-15th May 1976.
Silver Cross to the Army Merit
Cavalry Regiment included in the "Joint Task Force – Lebanon" and heir of the glorious attacks in "Pozzuolo del Friuli", it was employed on the framework of the Lebanese operational theatre in a region characterized by an illusory stability and hidden conflict. Thanks to its patrol and control activities on the territory, it contributed to the security of its area of responsibility. It managed to gain the unconditional approval of the local population that also appreciated the numerous humanitarian activities promoted. Thanks to its soldier's determination and enthusiasm it built the "United Nations 2-3" in Shama, becoming example of professionalism and sense of duty. The 5th "Lancers of Novara" Regiment contributed to increase the prestige of Italy and of the Army on an international level. Shama (Lebanon), 31st October 2006 – 23rd April 2007.
