"Di fulgida gloria vigile scolta"

On 1^st July 1940 the 1^st Paratroopers Battalion was constituted in Italy at the Paratroopers School of Tarquinia (VT) and later, on 15^th July 1940, left the number "one" to the new-born Paratroopers Carabinieri Battalion. The 2^nd Battalion, with the 3^rd and the 4^th Battalion, was included in the 1^st Paratroopers Regiment constituted on 1^st April 1941.

On 30^th April 1941, as 2^nd Battalion, it carried out the first war launch of the Specialty in Cefalonia and later it occupied the Isle of Zante. On 15^th March 1942 the 3^rd Paratroopers Regiment was constituted in Tarquinia (VT) including the 8^th, 9^th and 10^th Battalions. The 1^st and the 2^nd Regiments were included in the Paratroopers Division.

Firstly called "Cacciatori d'Africa" and then 185^th "Folgore" Infantry Division, the Division was sent to Northern Africa. The 3^rd Regiment, recalled 187^th Regiment, exchanged the 8^th and 9^th Battalions with the 2^nd and 4^th Battalions of the 185^th Regiment. On the front of El-Alamein the 187^th Paratroopers Regiment was deployed on the left of the "Folgore" Division disposition. During the battle the soldiers of the 187^th sacrificed themselves with the Division, gaining six Golden Medals to the Military Valour.

On 1^st January 1963 the Paratroopers Brigade and the 1^st Paratroopers Regiment, including the 2^nd and the 5^th Battalions, were constituted from the 1^st Paratroopers Tactical Group and the Parachuting Military Centre. In 1976, after the dissolution of the 1^st Regiment, the 2^nd "Tarquinia" Paratroopers Battalion became independent and received the War Flag of the 187^th Regiment. In 1982 the 2^nd Battalion participated in the constitution of the Peace Multinational Force in Lebanon with the Italian contingent. In 1991 its 5^th Company participated in the "Airone" Operation in northern Iraq.

With the reconstitution of the 187^th "Folgore" Paratroopers Regiment in 1992, the 2^nd "Tarquinia" Battalion was included in the Regiment that participated in the "Ibis 1" and "Ibis 2" Operations in Somalia and in the "Sicilian Vespers" in Italy. In September 1996 the 187^th Regiment participated in the "Joint Endeavour" operations in Bosnia and in the "Alba" Operation in Albania, followed by the operations in Kosovo and East Timor. Later the Regiment has operated in all the operational theatre where the Paratroopers Brigade has been employed.
