The first paratroopers artillery unit, the 1^st Paratroopers Artillery Group, was officially constituted on 28^th August 1941 in Tarquinia (VT).

Later the 2^nd Group was constituted on 15^th January 1942, the 3^rd Group on 10^th March 1942, the regimental services Battery and the Regiment Command; it was called Artillery Regiment for Paratroopers Division. The Regiment had 24 anti-tanks pieces of 47/32, 8 for each group.

On 27^th July 1942 the Regiment became 185^th "Folgore" Artillery Regiment; the paratroopers companies were reorganized in two groups on three batteries, constituting a seventh battery. Reinforced with artilleries of "Pavia" and "Trieste" divisions, it faced the clashes in El-Alamein; against the forces of the 8^th British Army, the 185^th Regiment was no longer part of the Royal Army on 8^th December 1942.

On 1^st July 1958, upon request of the General Staff, a Campaign Paratroopers Artillery Battery was reconstituted in the 1^st Paratroopers Tactical Group.

On 1^st June 1963 the Battery became a Group with two batteries and a Group Command Unit that received the War Flag of the 185^th Regiment on 16^th December 1966.

On 1^st October 1975 the Regiment became 185^th "Viterbo" Campaign Paratroopers Artillery Group and on 2^nd December 1975 it formed a third battery (1^st Draghi, 2^nd Le Aquile, 3^rd Diavoli and BCS Lions) with 18 pieces.

In 1981 it received 18 mortars of 120 mm and since then it was the unique Italian artillery unit with double armament.

On 1^st July 1988 the battery for stinger anti-airplanes self-defence (Scorpions) was constituted, becoming the fifth battery of the Group.

On 8^th September 1992 the group was constituted by the 1^st Paratroopers Artillery Group becoming part of the 185^th "Folgore" Paratroopers Artillery Regiment.

When it returned from the Balkans operation in the winter between 1999 and 2000, on 31^st August 2000 the stinger battery and the tactical support battery were dissolved and the regiment was named 185^th "Folgore" Land Artillery Regiment (Paratroopers for Acquisition of Objectives).

The 1^st Objectives Acquisition Group included three batteries, adding the 4^th Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol Battery that was part of the 9^th "Col Moschin" Paratroopers Assault Regiment.

Since 2004 it has changed its name into 185^th "Folgore" Objectives Acquisitions and Reconnaissance Paratroopers Regiment.

In 2013 the Regiment was reconstituted as paratroopers artillery unit in the base of Bracciano (RM).

Its activities abroad in the postwar started with the first overseas mission of the Italian Army; in 1982 a battery of the Group participated in the Mission in Lebanon. For ten years it has been the unique activity of the Army units abroad.

In 1991, on the framework of the "Airone" Mission, the Group participated in the constitution of the Paratroopers Tactical Group, sending personnel in Iraq. A new period for the Italian units began.

The 185^th was the first unit employed in the "Vespers" Operation in Sicily, followed by the operation in Somalia. And later in ex-Yugoslavia. The 185^th became the Regiment present in all the missions that involved the Paratroopers Brigade, in Bosnia and Kosovo.

Some Detachments of the Regiment has also operated in the Balkans, in Afghanistan and Iraq.
