Constituted on 11th January 1943 in Florence; it was then included in the 184th "Nembo" Division with the 184th and 185th Paratroopers Regiments and the 184th Paratroopers Artillery Regiment. Moved to Sardinia in May 1943, it remained there until May 1944 when the Division, at the dependencies of the Italian Corps of Liberation, participated in the operations on the national territory fighting against the Germans from Abbadia di Fiastra (June 1944) to Filottrano (July 1944).
On 24th September 1944, after the transformation of the "Nembo" Division, the "Folgore" Combat Group was formed including the "Nembo" Paratroopers Regiment. The unit fought with valour in Tossignano and Grizzano. In March 1945 a group of a hundred Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers and Paratroopers of the Regiment were included in the "Centuria Nembo" to participate in the "Herring" Operation: during the night of 20th April 1945 they launched on the German forces in the area of Poggio Rusco.
After the war, on 1st December 1948 the "Nembo" Paratroopers Regiment was changed into 183rd "Nembo" Infantry Regiment of the "Folgore" Infantry Division, until the reorganization of the Army in 1975 when it was changed into 183rd "Nembo" mechanized Infantry Battalion of the "Gorizia" Brigade. In 1991 the 183rd "Nembo" Infantry Battalion was dissolved and the War Flag was given to the reconstituted 183rd "Nembo" Paratroopers Battalion, moved from Gradisca (GO) to Pistoia where it was included in the "Folgore" Brigade.
On 23rd April 1993 the 183rd Battalion became Regiment assuming the current name. It then participated in the "Ibis" Operation in Somalia where the Regiment faced the crushes on 2nd July 1993. Later it participated in all the overseas activities as well as those in Homeland that involve the "Folgore" Paratroopers Brigade.
