"Della folgore l'impeto"
Commonly called "the ninth", it is the only unit of Special Forces of the Italian Army.
In its different components, it includes Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers and Volunteers trained and selected after a two-year training process.
The Raiders can move and combat in all the operational scenarios and in particular they are trained to operate in context with operational independency and at a large distance from the enemy lines.
The Regiment is located in Livorno and its War Flag is awarded with two Military Orders of Italy, a Golden Medal to the Army Valour, three Silver Medal to the Military Valour and a Silver Medal to the Army Valour.
The celebration of the Regiment is on 16th June that is the anniversary of the battle of Col Moschin (1918) in which the Assault Infantrymen of the 9th Unit showed their heroism. The battle for the conquest of Col Moschin is set in the battle of Solstizio, or second battle of Piave (15th June-22nd June 1918), between the Italian Royal Army and the Austro-Hungarian Imperial Royal Army.
