It descends from the 1st Alpine Group, constituted in Turin by the law 7th January 1923.
In 1926 the 1st Alpine Brigade was formed including the 1st, the 2nd, the 3rd and the 4th Alpine Regiments and the 1st Mountain Artillery Regiment. In October 1934 the Command of the Brigade was named Alpine High Command that became the 1st "Taurinense" in December 1934. On 10th September 1935 the 1st "Taurinense" Alpine Division was formed with the 3rd and the 4th Alpine Regiments and the 1st Alpine Artillery Regiment.
The Division operated firstly on the western alpine front; it remained in Italy until 1942 when it was deployed in Montenegro (Yugoslavia) for one year. Because of war events, in December 1943 it was dissolved and its components became part of the "Garibaldi" Partisans Italian Division.
Reconstituted in Turin on 15th April 1952, the "Taurinense" Alpine Brigade had as components the 4th Alpine and the 1st mountain Artillery Regiments, an Engineer Company and a Command Platoon. Through personnel and vehicles, some operational Units of the Brigade gave birth to a contingent available to the Mobile Forces of the Allied Forces in Europe that participated in training activities along with the other OTAN units.

It had also the "Mondovì" Alpines Battalion as a training unit and a Light Air Unit that, constituted in 1958, became 4th Patrol Helicopters Squadron and it was moved to the 4th "Altair" Army Light Aviation Group in Bolzano.
Since the 1st June 1978 the Brigade assumed at its dependencies an Air-Transportable Health Unit, descending from the dissolved 101st field hospital of the Logistic Battalion. That Unit could be promptly employed in case of natural disasters. The contingent was available to the Mobile Force of the Allied Forces in Central Europe and since 1st January 1986 it was named "Cuneense", including different Armies and Services. In the same year, since 30th September the Pioneers Engineer Company became Engineer Company.
Since 1991 there have been changes in the components: on 23rd March the "Pinerolo" mountain Artillery Group was dissolved and on 14th September the "Taurinense" Group had a new organization and the new name of 1st mountain Artillery Regiment.
On 1st August 1992 the 2nd Alpines Regiment was reconstituted while the Anti-tanks Company was dissolved; on 23rd October 1993 the 3rd Alpines Regiment was reconstituted and the Brigade included: Command and Tactical Supports Unit; 2nd and 3rd Alpines Regiments; 1st mountain Artillery Regiment; "Mondovì" Battalion; "Taurinense" logistic Battalion.
