"Più salgo più valgo"
On 1st November 1882 the 6th Alpine Regiment was constituted with the "Val d'Orco", "Val d'Aosta" and "Val Tagliamento" Battalions; in 1886 the dependent battalions were named "Verona", "Vicenza", "Bassano", "Pieve di Cadore" and "Gemona". It provided personnel for a unit employed in Eritrea. One year later, the 6th was dissolved to create the 7th Regiment with the "Verona", "Vicenza" and "Bassano" Battalions.
With those units it participated in the War of Libya in 1911-1912 and in the Great War, showing the character of strong and tenacious mountaineers.
In 1921 it entered the 2nd Alpine Division that became Alpines Group in 1923 and Alpine Brigade in 1926. Since 1935 it was included in the 2nd "Tridentina" Alpine Division with the 5th Alpine and the 2nd Alpine Artillery Regiments. Its "Trento" Battalion, included in the 11th Alpine Regiment, was employed in the eastern Africa campaign.
At the outbreak of the Second World War, the unified Regiment participated in the Russian campaign.
Returned to Italy in 1943, the Regiment went to Alto Adige for continuing the training until the armistice was signed. The Division and the 6th Deployed in Fortezza (BZ) were dissolved on 10th September 1943.
The 6th Alpine Regiment was reconstituted on 16th April 1946 for transformation of the 4th Alpine Regiment that had been formed on 20th November 1945 with the 505th, 508th and 514th Battalions of the 4th Infantry Brigade of the 210th Division.
Included in the glorious "Tridentina", it was dissolved on 30th September 1975 giving its Flag and traditions to the "Bassano" Alpine Battalion.
On 15th January 1993 the Battalion was included in the reconstituted 6th Alpine Regiment.
