"Domino e domo"
Golden Medal to the Military Valour
Decree of 31st December 1947
Already awarded with a Bronze Medal for the actions on the eastern Front in the first year of the Russian Campaign, it was victorious in the rapid advance from Bulawin to Don in July 1942. From the strong positions reached on Don, the 52nd Artillery Regiment led its batteries to support other sectors, contributing to enforce the allied units. When the rigid Russian winter arrived, along with an enemy advance, the 52nd Artillery Regiment fought against the enemy with a first action of retreat; the Division transformed its artillerymen into infantrymen. Surrounded by the enemy, it managed to break the circle with an assault by the survivors. After a long march of 36 hours, the survivor artillerymen fought against the enemy for twenty-four days. The rest of the Regiment managed to reach its Army with another epic march. The glorious Standard burned in the vehicle hit by enemy mortars as symbol of a mythical hero. (Malo and Novo Orlowka, Bogutschai, Diastschenkowa, Monastyischina, Paseka, Merkulow, Denridow, Sadrow, Arbusow, Tascherkow. July 1942 – January 1943).
