The General Staff of the Army is organized in a Department, a Directorate five Divisions, two general Offices each of them dedicated to a specific subject. Here below you can find a brief description about the tasks and the structure of each Units.
The
Department of Infrastructure was formed on 1st September 2015 in order to have a unified vision of the infrastructure management.
The
Directorate for the Central Coordination of the Surveillance, Prevention and Protection Service has to monitor the implementation of the national legislation about the security and the health on workplaces.
The
1st Division for Recluitment, Legal and Economic Affairs of the Personnel oversees the policies of the military personnel.
At the dependencies of the Deputy Head of Department there are the following offices:
- Recruitment and Promotion;
- Economic Treatment and Military Representation;
- Legal – Juridical;
- Military Psycology and Psychiatry.
This Department has also got skills related to information about the parliamentary and legislative acts, the Secretarial support to the Central Committee of Representation (COCER).
The
3rd General Planning Financial Division is responsible for the general planning and to define, in an analytic way, the capabilities of the land Military Tool in order to guarantee the security and organize the forces, supporting the capability development and
deals with the technical financial planning of the Armed Force and of the exercise of the budget. It deals with the financial aspects related to the use of contingents in operations. Furthermore it draws up directives on competitions in the Italian Army and monitors the achievement of the assigned objectives to the Armed Force. It also manages the "Lessons Learnt Process" and the development of the Doctrine Corps of the Army, participating in the elaboration of that of the joint forces and the NATO in order to optimize the operational and training activities of the Armed Force like those of the Allied Forces.
The
4th Logistics Division has to develop the policy of the materials, issue technical-operational directives for the logistics activity and define the logistic organization of the Armed Force. At its dependencies there is the Information Systems Centre of the Army.
The 5th General Affairs Division is responsible for the "welfare of the Staff", in particular for the social protection and the welfare benefits. It supervises the ceremonials activities and the public relations and it coordinates the concession of examinations for the Armed Force. It is also responsible for the marketing communication and the promotion of the enlistments. The Division is the depository of the historical heritage of the Armed Force. The "Military Magazine" represents the instruments to publicize the military thinking, through studies and debates.
It is divided into six Offices: the General Affairs Office, the Ceremonial and External Relations Office, the Sport Office, Marketing Office, the Advertising Center and the Historical Office.
At its dependences there is the Olympic Sport Centre of the Army.
The
6th C5I Systems Division defines the policy of C4I materials and supervises the renovation of the C4I systems, means and materials of the Armed Force. It has also to identify and define the needs to meet on the operational field and to elaborate the financial planning of the Armed Force in the investment sector, identifying the objectives achievable through the resources and the modalities.
The
General Security Office is legally responsible for the management, coordination and control, for the entire dependent security organization, of all the activities concerning safety and protection of classified information, documents and materials, in any form expressed and managed.
