"Fino alla fine"
The origins of the 32nd Alpine Sappers Engineer Regiment are linked to the 3rd "Folgore" and 4th "Uragano" Companies that were constituted on 1st December 1940 in Civitavecchia at the Sappers School founded by Colonel Piero Steiner. In the same School also the 30th and 31st Sappers Battalions and the 8th Paratroopers Sappers Battalion were formed.
On 14th January 1941the two Companies were sent to Tripoli and unified in a Battalion depending on the 1st Engineer Special Group, by order of the Northern Africa Command. The Unit was the first of the Sappers Specialty to be in line.
On 15th August 1941 the General Staff of the Army ratified the establishment of the Battalion with the name of 32nd Sappers Engineer Battalion.
Since April 1941 the Battalion participated in the battles on the northern Africa front, following the destiny of the Italian-German Armoured Army, marked by the defeat in El-Alamein.
Before that battle, on 1st August 1942 the 32nd Sappers Battalion was dissolved and the 70 survivors were included in the 31st Sappers Battalion led by the legendary Major Paolo Caccia Dominioni, facing the battle in El-Alamein as component of the "Folgore" Division. The Battalion managed to retreat and after six months, on 13th May 1943, the Army surrender in Tunisia.
On 1st September 2002 the 32nd Alpine Sappers Engineer Battalion was reconstituted at the dependencies of the "Taurinense" Alpine Brigade. The Unit also incorporated the "Taurinense" Sappers Company, included in the Command and Tactical Supports Unit of the Brigade since 1992.
On 24th September 2004 the Battalion was transformed into a Regiment.
