For the needs of the 11th Territorial Military Command, in 1953 the 11th Connections Company was constituted and on 1st September 1956 it was named 6th Signals Company.
Renamed 46th Signals Company on 4th November 1975, after the reorganization of the Army, on 1st May 1976 it was changed into 46th "Mongibello" Signals Battalion, at the dependencies of the Signals Command of the Sicily Military Region Command.
By decree of 12th November 1976 the Battalion received the War Flag.
On 1st September 1997 it was assigned to the Logistic Command – Southern Area of Naples; on 27th October 1997, after the suppression of the Signals Command of Palermo, it became 46th Signals Regiment, with the "Mongibello" Battalion at its dependencies, located in Palermo.
On 1st October 1998 it passed at the dependencies of the C4-IEW Command of Anzio that in 2005 it was named Signals and Information Command of the Army (COTIE).
Since 1st January 2001, after the dissolution of the 45th Signals Regiment, the Regiment had also at its dependencies the "Vulture" Signals Battalion, located in Nocera Inferiore (SA), and the 25th C4 Works Unit, located in San Giorgio a Cremano (NA).
