The Battalion acquired great operational capability and technical experience as signal component of the First Aid Force (Fo.P.I.), in favour of the Civil Protection based on "Acqui" Brigade, and Rapid Intervention Force (F.I.R) with military tasks. Since 1989 the "Leonessa" nucleus started to go around the world in order to support the contingents deployed overseas.
Firstly composed of only one battalion, the "Leonessa" has recently been flanked by the second "Tonale" Battalion. Now the Regiment is included in the Maneuvre Units of the Signals Command.
