"Fide itur ad astra"
The 121st Artillery Regiment was constituted on 1st May 1941 in Piacenza with three groups of 75/18 mod. 35, with elements from the Deposits of the 21st "Trieste" Artillery Regiment of Piacenza and the 10th Army Corps Artillery Regiment of Naples. After a short training period it was moved to Rome and in March 1942 to Saluzzo and Felizzano in Piedmont, assigned to the "Ravenna" Infantry Division (37th and 38th Infantry Regiments), leaving for the Russian front on 9th and 15th June 1942. On 20th August, while the Division was deploying on the assigned positions, the enemy started the battle. Several attacks with great forces (5 Divisions and 300 T34 tanks), strong artillery preparation, mortars and "Katiwshe" stopped the desperate resistance of the Division that, exhausted for the battles, for the lack of supplying and the terrible weather conditions, was ordered to retreat on 17th December 1942. The retreat was concluded on 26th April 1943 when the Regiment started to return to the Homeland. From Alessandria it was later moved to Grosseto where it was employed on the framework of the "Ravenna" Division. Following the events on 8th September 1943, it was dissolved after having saved the Flag.
Reconstituted in March 1951 in Reggio Emilia for the "Trieste" Division, on 3rd November of the same year it was located in Modena. On 15th June 1953 it was transformed into 121st Anti-aircrafts Heavy Artillery Regiment and located in Bologna. On 1st October 1963 it passed at the dependencies of the Artillery Command of the Army. On 1st March 1970 it was named 121st Anti-aircrafts Light Artillery Regiment. On 19th November 1975, after the reorganization of the Army, it absorbed two groups of the 18th Regiment and was reorganized on four groups. It was then redeployed in Sicily on the framework of the "Girasole" Operation in order to guarantee the security in the air bases of the isle.
In 1988 it received the Stinger system and in 1991, after having conducted the experimentation, it adopted the SIDAM self-propelled system of 25 mm. After other reorganizations, on 21st September 1993 the 121st lost three groups and assumed the current organization. On 1st August 1997 it was named 121st "Ravenna" Anti-aircrafts Artillery Regiment.
The War Flag of the Regiment is awarded with a Silver Medal to the Military Valour, earned in Russia.
