During the twenty-ninth anniversary of his reign, King Ferdinando IV of Borbone founded the Royal Military Academy in Naples in 1787.
The ex-monastery of Monte Echia in Pizzofalcone, where in the past the Jesuits carried out their novitiate, became the headquarter of the new Institute that was named Nunziatella (as the annex Church, a rare jewel of the baroque art of Naples dedicated to the "Annunziata").
Educational paths
The training activity gives all the cadets a
basic military education, independently from their future life and educational
choices. It provides them with a valid military education in compliance with
the peculiarity of the school, avoiding excessive specificities. The military
activities are based on the following disciplines:
- combat training;
- formal education;
- NBC training;
- weapons and shooting;
- rules;
- Topography.
At the end of each year there is a two-week summer camp.
Gymnastic-sport activities
The physical education is based on the two distinctive aspects of Nunziatella: the observance of the ministerial programs and the activities aiming to the military training. In this perspective, the inalienable targets (awareness of the physic and the psycho-motor development) are integrated with specific and operational purposes (physiological building up, resistance and velocity improvement, reinforcement of the motor methods, equilibrium, postural and dynamic coordination), respecting the different phases. The sports played are the same of the military traditions (fencing, equitation, judo, swimming, sailing, rowing, skiing) but also athletics and volleyball are practiced.
- athletics, fencing, rugby, handball, basketball,
volleyball, personal defense;
- skiing (only for the second-year Cadets, during
the interval between the two terms, swimming, sailing, equitation, sport
shooting.
For these activities the School uses the
following complexes:
- the gym and the fencing Room of the School for
Personal Defense and fencing activities;
- the internal court of the School for handball,
basketball and volleyball;
- the “Albricci” Military Stadium for athletics
and rugby;
- the Army Swimming Pool for swimming;
- the CIM of Agnano for equitation;
- the national shooting for the shooting;
- the Sailing Section of M.M. for the sailing.
Cultural activities
In February, for one week, didactic visits are organized annually flanking the didactic planning of the Class Council and respecting the educational aims of the School. Conferences and seminars are organized in the scholastic complex concerning scientific, sportive and military issues.
The English language is taught also at the Classics High School in order to give its attenders the same opportunities of the Scientific High School attenders, in preparation for their studies in the Military Academies. It is a practical study flanked by a multimedia language course, in order to get the Cadets used to learn the language by themselves. Moreover, both for the Classics and the Scientific High Schools, there are some hours for the speaking with teachers of the School. The Cadets are evaluated in English and their marks will be considered for the military attitude mark. In order to encourage the Cadets in the language study there are also:
- a one-week intensive course at the Foreign
Language School in Perugia, at the end of the 1st term;
- a two-week study sojourn in England, at the end
of the scholastic year, only for the best two students in the language study.
Since 1998/1999 the "Didactic Help Desk" has been introduced as didactic, educational and integrative intervention.
Therefore the School is at the students' disposal! It represents an improvement of the educational path that gives the School the possibility to offer services to the students. In fact, in the afternoon they can ask the teachers some clarifications on all the subjects.
Moreover, as the Public Education Ministry has required, there are legality lessons.
