As in the case of the Artillery, also the Engineer patch has not got the colour specific for each regiment. The basic insignia is constituted by a black one-tip flame with a crimson edge.

The Sappers have got their insignias since the 70s, formed by a smaller patch lied on a white and red background cut in diagonal; in the upper part there is the black grenade with 5 red tongues of flame and a sword above.

This insignia has been later included for the Alpine troops, the air-transported troops, the Grenadiers Brigade and the Sassari Brigade.
