Golden Medal to the Military Valour

Already awarded with a silver medal for the victories on the eastern front during the first year of the campaign in Russia, it rapidly advanced from Bulawin to Don in July 1942. Deployed in strong positions on Don, the 82nd Infantry Regiment maintained for several months the eastern vallo, repelling the numerous enemy attacks night and day. When the rigid Russian winter arrived, along with the enemy offensive, the 82nd Infantry Regiment together with the other units of the Division was ordered to retreat on a second line, distinguishing for resistance and heroism. Encircled for a first time in Arbusow, after a march lasted thirty-six hours, it managed to stop the assault after two days of violent battle reaching another stronghold where it faced the enemy for twenty-four days. After having stopped this second assault, through another heroic march, it managed to reach the other units of its Army. The glorious Flag, hidden on the heroic commander's breast, was buried with him under the steppe without any coffin or name. With discipline and valour against an enemy threatening the troops deployed on Basso Piave, thanks to its infantrymen it reestablished the defence integrity with a bloody counterattack. It attacked many enemy positions, giving an efficient moral and material contribute to the successful end of the battle. (Basso Piave, 15th June – 6th July 1918).

Imitator of the generous traditions of our Infantry, with a very high moral spirit of sacrifice, it surpassed itineraries of 1600 km, in spite of efforts, pains and adverse weather conditions and in presence of minefield. Distinguishing in the maneuvre for the encirclement of enemy units in Petrikowka, it gave proof of its military qualities when it routed the enemy formations through continuous offensive actions and several battles. In the attack against enemy positions it enlarged the penetration of our columns ensuring protection to a wide defensive sector, made more difficult by the arrival of the rigid winter. (Russian front: Obuchowkije, Kurilowka, Krestowka, Ubeshisctsche, Rykowo, Chazepetrowka, Jelenowka, Juni Comunard, Bosso Kawka; August 1941 – May 1942).

Decree of 4th January 1978
When a violent earthquake hit Friuli, it promptly intervened in the devastated areas where it operated with courage and human solidarity contributing to rescue the wounded and the survivors and to remove the ruins, limiting in that way the damages. Its work was appreciated by the Authorities and recognized by the populations, strengthening the prestige of the Army. (Friuli, 6th – 15th May 1976).
Silver Medal to the Merit
Decree of 5th June 1910
It distinguished for its hard work, courage and abnegation in rescuing the populations hit by the earthquake in the regions of Calabria and Sicily on 28th December 1908.
Bronze Medal to the Merit of the Italian Red Cross
In recognition for the generous contribution in the rescuing operations of the Italian Red Cross in favour of the populations hit by the flood in November 1994.
