Victoria Nobis Vita"
Constituted in Verona on 16th September 1883 with preexistent battalions, the 12th Bersaglieri Regiment had its baptism of fire in Eritrea (1885-1896). It provided 1,000 soldiers for the expedition to Libya for the war in 1911-1912. It was also employed in the war of 1915-1918, along the isontino front, and in the victorious final battle of Vittorio Veneto. In participated in the campaign of 1935-1936 against Ethiopia and in 1939 in Albania with a battalion.
Later it operated at the western Alpine Front and in 1941 it participated in the operations for the occupation of Yugoslavia. Assigned to the 133rd "Littorio" Armoured Division, it was sent to Northern Africa where, after the battle of El-Alamein, it was dissolved on 8th December 1942. On 1st October 1975 in Tauriano (PN) the 23rd "Castel di Borgo" Bersaglieri Battalion was constituted and it received flag and traditions of the 12th Regiment. Included in the "Mameli" Armoured Brigade, that unit participated in the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon from October 1983 to January 1984. Passed to the "Ariete" Armoured Brigade on 1st April 1991, the Battalion was redeployed on 31st March 1992 from Tauriano (PN) to Sicily, in Trapani, depending on the "Aosta" Brigade. On 2nd September 1992 the 12th Regiment was reconstituted in the Sicilian headquarters, including the 23rd "Castel di Borgo" Bersaglieri Battalion.
In the years 1992-1994 it was the operational responsible for the units deployed in the province of Trapani, for the "Sicilian Vespers" Operation of Public Order.
On 15th April 2005 it was dissolved and substituted in the headquarters by the reconstituted 6th Bersaglieri Regiment.
The Flag of the Regiment is decorated with a Military Order of Italy, a Golden Medal to the Military Valour, three Silver Medal to the Military Valour and a Silver Medal to the Army Valour.
Like for all the Bersaglieri regiments, its celebration is on 18th June that is the anniversary of the specialty establishment (1836).
