The 3rd Army Aviation Support "Eagle" Regiment was formed on 1st September 1965 as 3rd Army Unit for the Repair of Light Aircrafts at the disciplinary and administrative dependencies of the 3rd O.R.M.E. and employed by the DMV of the North-Western Military Region.
Since 1st February 1971, with the reorganization of the Army Light Aviation staff, the 3rd Army Unit for the Repair of Light Aircrafts was placed at the dependencies of the 3rd Army Corps; on 1st February 1976 the Unit was placed at the dependencies of the Chief of Staff Materials of the Army Light Aviation – Army Logistic Inspectorate.
By Decree of 12th December 1989 the 3rd Army Unit for the Repair of Light Aircrafts was given the War Flag, subsequently given to the Unit on 6th October 1990 in Viterbo.
On 1st September 1996 it was named 3rd Army Aviation Support "Eagle" Regiment and on 1st January 1999 it passed at the dependencies of the Chief Services of Transport and Materials Department – Army Logistic Northern Inspectorate (Padova).
On 1st January 2000 it was named 3rd Support Air Cavalry "Eagle" Regiment that since 1st December 2003 returned to be 3rd Army Aviation Support "Eagle" Regiment.
On 22nd September 2004 it passed at the dependencies of the Army Logistic Inspectorate – Transport and Materials Department – Mobility and Counter-Mobility Unit; on 9th February 2005 it passed at the dependencies of the Army Aviation Materials Unit.
