"Per omnia asperrima"
The Regiment belongs to the Sappers specialty since 1986 when the preexistent Miners battalion changed for the new employment.
The history of the unit is linked to that one of the 2nd Sappers Regiment of 1860 and it developed in the Italian history through the campaigns for the unification in 1860-1861, against the Brigantaggio (1860-1870), the 3rd War of Independence (1866) and the conquest of Rome (1870), Eritrea (1895-1896), Libya (1911-1912), the Great War (1915-1918), the expedition to the eastern Mediterranean, Anatolia in 1919-1920, in the 2nd World War at the French front (1940), in the Balkans in 1941 and 1942 and in Russia (1942-1943).
Reconstituted in Bolzano on 20th April 1954, the Unit followed the development of the units belonging to the Alpine Corps.
It has been employed after the earthquake in Friuli, for the disaster in Val di Stava (1985) and Valtellina (1987) and in the operations in Albania ("Pellicano"), Somalia ("Ibis") and Mozambique ("Albatros").
