In the period between 1952 and 1959 everything returned to normal: the civilian personnel was reduced to 1600 units; the destroyed or damaged buildings were reconstructed; the machines, plants and equipment were made efficient again; the stocks of the materials were reconstituted. As a consequence the Establishment dedicated almost exclusively to modernize plants and machines in order to make them adjusted to the new armaments and technologies. When in the 70's more complex weapons were used, there was the necessity of adopting a system of general repair planned by a single Establishment with all professionalism and equipment, instead of a repair system of 4th level at the Artillery Establishments and the DVLA.
The Northern Maintenance Centre has the task of ensuring the efficiency through maintenance activities carried out by contact squadrons of all the main vehicles, systems and materials belonging to the Armed Force. Those activities are carried out on the national territory but also in the Operational Theatres. In particular, the Centre has to maintain the efficiency of:
- Howitzer FH70;
- MLRS;
- Self-propelled vehicle M109L;
- SIDAM;
- SKYGUARD;
- HAWK;
- Armoured vehicle CENTAURO;
- Tank ARIETE;
- VCC (Combat Armoured Vehicle) DARDO;
- M113;
- SAMP/T;
- Vehicles derived from LEOPARD;
- Bridge materials;
- HGB Bridge materials;
- Outboard motors.
Moreover, since 2012 the adaptation of the Centre to the needs has provided maintenance activities also for Medium Tactical Vehicles "Lince" and the Medium Armoured Vehicles "Freccia".
