Lieutenant General

 

Lieutenant General Leonardo DI MARCO has attended courses at the Military Academy of Modena. As Artillery Officer he has been Commander at the 3rd "VOLTURNO" Rockets Artillery Group, the 33rd "ACQUI" Heavy Artillery Regiment and the 5th "PESCARA" Antiaircrafts Artillery Regiment. In General Staff positions, he was in service at the Command of the 3rd "AQUILEIA" Rockets Brigade, the General Staff of the Army, the Defence General Staff and, as Chief of General Staff, at the Command of the 132nd "ARIETE" Armoured Brigade. He has attended the Italian War College and the United States Army Command and General Staff College; he was in service at the Italian Embassy in Washington DC.

In 1998-2000 he was in service at the General Staff of "ACE Rapid Reaction Corps" in Germany; he has participated in peacekeeping operations in Macedonia and Kosovo in which he was responsible for the writing and implementation of the peace agreements with Serbians and the Kosovan Army of liberation. In 2011 he was the Chief of the Operations Division at the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Command in Solbiate Olona (VA) – Italy.

In the period July-November 2004 he was employed in Iraq as Deputy Commander of the English Division that had the Italian Brigade at its dependencies.

Moreover in 2005 (July-December) he participated in the ISAF 8th mission in Afghanistan as Deputy Chief of the General Staff responsible for the operations.

After the mission, on 26th January 2006 he was appointed as Artillery Brigade Commander in Portogruaro and from September 2007 to September 2010 as Deputy Chief of the Supports General Staff at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers in Europe (SHAPE). Later he was appointed as Chief of General Staff of NRDC-ITA, until 6th February 2012.

From 11th February 2012 he was Commander at the Simulation and Validation Centre of the Italian Army; from 29th April 2012 to 31st August 2016 he was Chief of General Staff and Chief of the EU Unit for Bosnia Herzegovina at the Allied Joint Force Command in Naples.

On 1st July 2013 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General. Author of various articles concerning military problems, Lieutenant General Leonardo DI MARCO is also lecturer at the NATO School in Oberammergau.

Lieutenant General Leonardo DI MARCO has got two University Degrees: in Strategical Studies, earned at Turin University, and in Political Sciences, earned at Trieste University.

Lieutenant General DI MARCO has been awarded with decorations such as Knight Commander of the Order to the Merit of the Italian Republic and Silver Cross to the Merit of the Italian Army.

Lieutenant General Di Marco is married to Mrs. Luisella; they have got a son, Alberto, and a daughter, Laura.
