The Transports and Materials School was constituted on 1st January 1984 for transformation of the Motorization Schools, inheriting the traditions of the Application School of the Automotive Corps; since 1949 thousands of Officers have trained there.
In occasion of the reorganization in the training sector, in 1991 the General Staff of the Army ordered that the School also performed the training tasks of the Motorization School, the Armament Specialists Centre and the Electronic Technicians School. In the meantime, on 6th November 1991, the War Flag of the Automotive Corps was assigned to the School.
On 1st January 1992 the Armament Specialists Centre of the Army (CESAE), located in Piacenza, passed at the dependencies of the Transports and Materials School; on 24th November of the same year all training modules of the Centre were transferred to Rome.
On 12th October 1992, after the suppression of the Electronic Technicians School, the School took also the training modules for the specialization in electronic technicians for missiles. From December 1993 to September 1998 the School organized also courses for bomb and anti-sabotage squads for personnel of the Army, the other Armed Forces and the Army Corps of the State that since 1st October 1998 passed to the Engineer School.
On 1st January 1998 the School passed at the dependencies of the Transports and Materials Department of the Army Logistic Inspectorate, partly modified on 1st January 2000 with the integration of the logistic-administrative components and transports of the Medical and Veterinary School.
Since 1st March 2001 it has passed under the control of the Training and Specialization Inspectorate, that is today Schools Command.
Since 3rd August 2009 it has passed at the dependencies of the Operational Land Forces Command, become responsible for the "specialization" of the Armed Force and transferred to the "Arpaia" barracks in Rome.
On 23rd September 2010 the Projection Logistic Command was constituted at the Cecchignola in Rome, after the suppression of the Projection Logistic Command Brigade in Udine and of the Transports and Materials School in Rome.
On 13th September 2013 the Projection Logistic Command was suppressed and the Transports and Materials School was reconstituted, at the dependencies of the Training Specialization and Doctrine Command of the Army.
