The C4 Army Command is the organ of the Army dedicated to the managing, the development and the security of network infrastructure and information systems/services.
It comes from the 1st Electronic Calculation Centre of the Army constituted in 1968 as a support organ of the Statistics, Mechanography and Operational Research of the General Staff of the Army, in which it was included until 1980.
After the restoration of the IT sector of the Army, the 1st Electronic Calculation Centre of the Army was included in the Services Unit Command of the Army (C.U.S.E) that is the current Central Logistic Group (Ra.Lo.Ce); it preserves a functional dependency with the General Staff of the Army.
With some following regulating measures, the 1st Electronic Calculation Centre of the Army passed to the dependencies of the Managing Information System Office and the Logistic Inspectorate of the Army, preserving the logistic relation with the Central Logistic Group and the administrative relation with the Administrative Office of the General Staff of the Army ad a smaller department.
The 1st Electronic Calculation Centre of the Army has got institutional tasks but it has also participated with men and vehicles in civil protection interventions by the Army Force; its IT Units of Rapid Employment (NIPI) have operated in LEBANON, ALBANIA, SOMALIA, MOZAMBIQUE, BOSNIA and AFGHANISTAN.
On 1st March 2002 it changed the name into IT Services Centre of the Army and on 1st January 2006 into IT Systems Centre of the Army. On 1st January 2013 the IT Systems Centre of the Army passed at the dependencies of the 4 Logistic Unit of the General Staff of the Army.
On 21st October, after the reorganization of the IT Systems Centre of the Army, it receives the staff, the functions and the skills of the dissolved IT Systems Office of the Army.
On 1st January 2017, in the framework of the reorganization of the C4 division of the Army, it was reorganized into C4 Army Command (COMC4EI) and passed to the dependencies of the 6th C4 IT Systems Unit of the General Staff of the Army, taking on the responsibility of the Central Database, the network infrastructure, the services and the information security of the Army.
In the same period the Experimentation and C4 Integration Systems (located in PADOVA) and the Systems Restoring (located in Florence) passed to the dependencies of the new COMC4EI.
