Constituted in Rome on 1^st February 1964 by decision of the General Staff of the Army, it has got the tasks and the functions of the dissolved minor bands.

At the dependencies of the "Grenadiers of Sardinia" Command Division, in December 1964 it became an independent unit. Its first performance in public of the new Band took place on 2^nd June 1964 in Rome on the occasion of the military parade for the anniversary of the foundation of the Republic.

At first it was composed by 126 elements, Non-Commissioned Officers and troop military; now it has got a commander (Senior Officer responsible for the discipline and the employment), a Maestro for the artistic aspect, a Command, a Command Services Unit and a Music Corps with 102 Non-Commissioned Officers recruited by a contest.
