"Virtute Supero"
The 62nd Infantry Regiment was constituted on 16th April 1861 and included in the "Sicily" Brigade with the 61st Regiment.
The Regiment participated in the repression of brigandage in central Italy in 1861-1863, in the Third War of Independence in 1866 and in the conquest of Rome in 1870.
Employed with the 61st, it participated in the First World War deserving, like all the Infantry Regiment, the Military Order of Italy.
After a reorganization in 1926, the 62nd "Sicily" Infantry Regiment was assigned to the 8th Infantry Brigade and it participated in the Second World War included in the 102nd "Trento" Motorized Division; it fought until it was dissolved in November 1942 in northern Africa.
On 1st October 1975 the 62nd "Sicily" motorized Infantry Battalion was constituted in Catania, inheriting the traditions of the Regiment. On 27th August 1992, with personnel from the dissolved 62nd "M.O. Jero" armoured Battalion, it was reorganized in 62nd "Sicily" armoured Infantry Regiment. In 1997 the Regiment became tanks regiment and in 2001 it was changed again into an infantry unit.
