Golden Medal to the Army Valour

Always in front line, this Engineer Regiment carried out many military non-war activities to save human lives, with extraordinary efficiency, preventing accidents and limiting consequences. Among them: the contributions in the emergency for Etna and Stromboli in 2001 and 2002, the hydric crisis in Sicily in 2002, the numerous interventions to clear the territory from unexploded ordnances, the collaboration with the Police forces in the judiciary activities to search for fugitives, the surveillance of deposits and provisions of sensitive materials, the sweep for searching the missing personnel, the demolition of abusive buildings. In any circumstances, the soldiers of the 4th Engineer Regiment operated with courage and competence, sometimes putting at risk their safety but honoring the military valours. The work of the 4th Regiment, example of great military virtues and spirit of sacrifice, contributed to increase the prestige of the Engineer Army and the Armed Force in general, in the national social context.

(To the 2nd Engineer Mixed Battalion for the "Tridentina" Alpine Division)
Solid and perfect war instrument, merged in a unique group of energies and intrepid will, in seven months of campaign it confirmed to be worthy of the glorious traditions of the Army. Thanks to courage and hard work, in any actions it won against the enemy. In the epic days of the retreat from the Don front and called to stop the enemy forces in Opyt, it counterattacked the enemy that was superior in terms of forces and vehicles, preventing the encirclement of the national and allied units. Reduced in the number, after eight days of battles, in the battle of Nikolajewka it attacked the enemy with courage and, paying a blood tribute with abnegation and valour, it contributed to the decisive final success. (To the 4th "Orta" Alpine Engineer Battalion)
After moving men and vehicles in the area of Venzone (Friuli) hit by the earthquake for preparing the prefabs destined to the needy populations, it operated for more than seven months in difficult environmental conditions. Thanks to the tireless work of the soldiers, it carried out the interventions planned by the government authority and a series of extraordinary interventions. It contributed concretely to limit the depopulation of the Municipalities hit by the disaster and the damages to the precious heritage of cultural and moral valours. Great example of abnegation and the best civil virtues. (Carnia – Friuli, 20th September 1876 – 30th April 1977).

(To the "Orta" Alpine Engineer Battalion)
With about 400 soldiers and its vehicles, it reached promptly the Municipalities of Atripalda, Monocalzati, Castelfranci, Torrella dei Lombardi, S.Angelo dei Lombardi, Teora, Conza della Campania, S.Andrea di Conza, Pescopagano, 1,000 km far from the headquarters and considered the most devasted by the earthquake on 23rd November 1980, in the Provinces of Avellino and Potenza. Thanks to the efficiency of its work, the technical expertise, the organizational capabilities, the high sense of duty and spirit of sacrifice, the courage in the most dangerous situations, it contributed to give the populations faith for the recovery. The generous action of the youngers, in a difficult environmental situation made more dangerous by the probable collapses and the adverse weather conditions, it did not cede even if it lasted more than two consecutive months (from 29th November 1980 to 16th February 1981). It demolished precarious buildings, it cleared the ruins, it restored the practicability and the main urbanization service, it prepared prefabs for people and shelter for animals, it built a Bailey bridge, it distributed hot meals to the population and it extracted corpses under the ruins. Great example of civil and military virtues, with high technical capabilities, altruism that raised unanimous admiration and deep gratitude by the populations helped and the local Administrations, contributing in that way to strengthen the prestige of the Army.
