The Regiment originated from the Sappers Battalion and the Telegraphist Battalion constituted on 1st April 1920 respectively in Capua and S.Maria Capua Vetere (Caserta), for the 10th Army Corps of Naples.
On 13th July 1922 the two Battalions formed with the Deposit the 18th Engineer Army Corps Regiment.
The new unit included a command, a sappers brigade (miners with a motorists section), telegraphists and a firemen section, a telegraphists brigade.
On 5th November 1923 it became 10th Engineer Regiment. In February 1934 the sappers-miners units provided to the 8th Regiment 1300 elements per unit operating in eastern Africa; it was dissolved on 15th January 1936.
In January 1937 the telegraphists and radio-telegraphists units were named Signals unit.
During the Second World War, even if it did not participate in the operations directly, it became a mobilization centre constituting and mobilizing different engineer units through the deposit.
The Regiment was dissolved in September 1943 after the events determined by the armistice.
On 1st April 1953 the 3rd Pioneers Army Corps Engineer Battalion was constituted in Pavia, by transformation of the preexistent 3rd Territorial Pioneers Company. On 1st June to the company they were flanked the Command Platoon and the 1st Pioneers Company. On the framework of the reorganization of the Army, on 10th October 1975 the unit was renamed 3rd "Lario" Pioneers Engineer Battalion, organized in Command, Company Command and three Pioneers companies.
The Battalion became heir of the traditions of the 10th Engineer Regiment from which it received the Flag by Decree of 12th November 1976.
Its components changed again on 1st January 1987 and it was organized in a Command, a Company Command and Services, three Pioneers companies and a Company with special equipment.
After the reorganization of the Army, the Battalion was dissolved on 15th August 1993 and the following day the 10th Pioneers Engineer Regiment was formed, including the personnel of the dissolved 131st "Ticino" Sappers Engineer Regiment.
On 20th September 1996 the 10th Regiment assumed the organic configuration of Sappers Engineer Regiment with the current name.
At the dependencies of the Projection Forces Command, it was included in the 132nd "Ariete" Armoured Brigade.
In the last ten years the Regiment has been employed in overseas missions where the Army units have been deployed.
