"Della folgore l'impeto"
The history of the Regiment started in the Great War with the Assault Infantrymen Units, among them the 9th Assault Unit, employed to break through the enemy lines before the attacks of the Infantries. The Assault Infantrymen were known for their violent actions that concluded with launches of grenades and cold steel to the enemy trenches. In particular, the 9th Unit distinguished on Grappa Mount where it was protagonist of the reconquest of some Austrian positions on Col Moschin, Col della Beretta and Asolone.
On 20th July 1942 an Assault Infantrymen Regiment was constituted in Santa Severa (Rome) that became the 10th Infantrymen Regiment on 15th September. The Unit, characterized by the azure flames, was at the dependencies of the Operations Office of the General Staff. Organized in battalions of specialized companies, paratroopers, swimmers and jeep drivers, it was reorganized in four battalions among which the 4th one was a paratrooper battalion. Employed in patrol operations in Tunisia, Algeria and the occupied Sicily, The Regiment was dissolved on 8th September 1943. The 1st Battalion, located in Sardinia, was reorganized in 1944 in the 9th Assault Unit and it participated in the War of Liberation, included by the "Legnano" Combat Group.
Dissolved in 1946, it was reconstituted as a Company at the Infantry School in Cesano (Rome) in 1953; on 1st June 1954 it became Saboteurs Paratroopers Unit. Assigned to the Military Parachuting Centre in Pisa on 10th May 1957, it became Saboteurs Paratroopers Battalion on 25th September 1961. On 1st October 1975 it was named 9th "Col Moschin" Paratroopers Assault Battalion and it received the flag of the 10th Assault Infantrymen Regiment. On 24th June 1995 it assumed the current name.
