"Come folgore"
The 185th RAO Regiment (for the Reconnaissance and Acquisition of Objectives) is the heir of the 1st Paratroopers Infantry Regiment (RFP) constituted in April 1941 at the Parachuting School in Tarquinia. Descendent of the 1st Paratroopers Infantry Regiment of the "Folgore" Division, the 185th RFP constituted the "Folgore" Recognition Squadron, after the 3rd Battalion of 185th RFP was dissolved on 8th September 1943. In Italy that Squadron carried out patrols, infiltration and sabotage actions against German lines that ended with the "Herring" Operation (20th April 1945), the unique airdrop of our Army on Italian territory, in the area of Po Valley. The task of the Squadron was to facilitate the allied advance along the peninsula, through special patrols and sabotage actions. Those war operations were carried out also thanks to the training led by the English Special Air Service (SAS) in Puglia in 1944. Today the operators of the 185th RAO Regiment are the result of a severe two-year selection through which the techniques to carry out missions in any Operational Theatres are learnt: from the mountain to the amphibious environment, from the desert to the Mediterranean and continental one.
