
"Nicea fidelis"
It originated from the "Dragons of Piedmont" Regiment constituted on 4th July 1690 and dissolved in December 1798. In the first period the Regiment participated in the war for the Augusta League in 1690-1697, in the war of Succession in Spain in 1701-1713, in Sicily in 1718-1719, in the war of Succession in Poland in 1733-1735, in the war of Succession in Austria in 1742-1748; in 1792-1796 it opposed to the French invasion and in 1799 it participated in the Austrian-Russian-French campaigns as 3rd "Dragons of Piedmont" Regiment.
On 24th May 1814 the Piedmont Light Cavalry Regiment was constituted but on 3rd January 1832 it became "Nizza Cavalry" Regiment. In 1815 it fought in Grenoble and in 1850 it was mentioned among the line cavalry. In 1859 it was named Nizza Armoured Regiment that in 1860 became Nizza Cavalry Regiment. In 1848-1849 it participated in the First War of Independence, in 1859 in the Second War of Independence and in 1860-1861 in the campaign of Central-Southern; in 1866 it fought in the Third War of Independence and in 1887-1888 and 1895-1896 it sent men and horses to Eritrea.
During the Great War the Regiment included the 3rd "Light Cavalry of Aquila" Squadron and in 1920 it received the traditions of the dissolved "Montebello" Regiment.
Employed in the War of Ethiopia in 1935-1936, at the outbreak of the Second World War the Regiment operated on the Western Alpine Front, in Yugoslavia, in France, in Tunisia and it was dissolved in Piedmont in the period of the Armistice.
