The Mountain Artillery Regiment was constituted on 1st November 1887 with two brigades from the 14th and 16th fortress Regiments.
On 1st October 1909 it transferred five batteries to the second regiment that was constituting and it became 1st Mountain Artillery Regiment.
In 1911-1912 it sent personnel of the "Torino Susa" and "Mondovì" to Libya; then it participated in the First World War (1915-1918) with the "Susa", "Aosta", "Pinerolo" and "Mondovì" Groups.
In 1935 it was named 1st "Taurinense" Alpine Artillery Regiment and it participated in the War of Ethiopia with the "Susa" Group and the 5th Battery of the "Aosta" Group. Assigned to the "Taurinense" Alpine Division, it participated in the Second World War with the "Susa" and "Aosta" Groups, first on the western front and later deployed in Montenegro (1942).
In October 1943 it was dissolved after having reacted to the attacks of the German troops. The "Aosta" Group continued to fight in the "Garibaldi" Italian Partisan Division, until November 1944, deserving the highest recognition to the Military Valour.
Reconstituted on 1st May 1952 as 1st Mountain Artillery Regiment with the "Aosta", "Susa" and "Pinerolo" Groups; on 18th October 1975, with the reorganization of the Army, it was dissolved again.
The "Pinerolo" and "Aosta" Groups remained; the "Aosta" received the regiment Flag and traditions.
Since 14th September 1991 the Group contributed to form the "Aosta" Regiment on 19th September 1992 with current name of 1st "Mountain Artillery Regiment.
