Golden Medal to the Military Valour

Decree of 30^th January 1948

For the behavior of the "Tolmezzo", "Cividale" and "Gemona" Battalions during the Italian-Greek war: violent in the attacks, they won at Pindo; tenacious in the defence, they wrote pages of glory and blood on Mali, Scindeli and Golico, stopping the advance of the enemy forces. They deserved of their heroic and victorious war past on the mountains of Greece and Albania. (Greek front, Pindo, Mali, Scindeli, Golico. 28^th October 1940 – 23^rd April 1941).

Golden Medal to the Military Valour

Decree of 31^st December 1947

Faithful of a glory tradition, with its "Tolmezzo", "Gemona" and "Cividale" Battalions and the 41^st anti-tanks Company, it repelled violent attacks. Destined to another area for stopping the enemy's success, for more than thirty days, it resisted with tenacity to the pressure of the enemy that was superior in soldiers and vehicles' number, counterattacking it violently and giving proof of heroism and honour for the Homeland. After having received the order for the retreat, the survivors managed to open a way through the enemy encirclement, confirming the legendary virtues of the Alpine Troopers of Italy. Decree of 29^th October 1922

For the valour and the tenacity showed in difficult situations by the "Fella", "Gemona" and "Canin" Battalions, reaffirming the war virtues of the people in Friuli. (Carnia, 24^th May 1915; 6^th November 1917).

Bronze Medal to the Army Valour

Decree of 2^nd December 1977

The unit immediately intervened with all the available personnel in rescuing the populations of built-up areas of Val Fella, hit by the earthquake on 6^th May 1976. Working in difficult conditions and endangering its life, the personnel did its best to rescue the wounded and the people buried under the ruins and to search missing people. Later it gave its contribution in the operations in the Municipalities of Gemona, Montenars and Venzone, organizing tent cities and providing food. Its hard work, that raised admiration and recognition by the Authorities and the population, contributed to limit the damages and strengthened the prestige of the Army. Silver Cross to the Army Merit

Decree of 28^th July 1995

The “Gemona” Alpine Troopers Battalion participated in the peacekeeping operations in Mozambique, constituting the operational component of the national contingent of “Albatros”, employed in the “Onumoz” mission. For three months of continuous efforts, working in difficult and adverse weather conditions, on a wide territory and in an instable politic context, the Battalion performed its duties preventing any incident. With its efficiency, determination and high sense of discipline and honesty in human relations, the Battalion guaranteed the practicability of the passageway in Beira and the security in all its area of responsibility, restoring in that way the normal life conditions for Mozambique people. Thanks to its military ethic and high sense of human responsibility, the “Gemona” Alpine Troopers Battalion demonstrated its suitability for the Italian Army in peacekeeping interventions, contributing to increase the prestige on an international level and giving example of professionalism and dedication.
