In seven months of hard campaign on the Russian front, it showed itself as powerful war unit with energies, strong voluntary and legendary courage. During the most difficult maneuvre of retreat from the Don front, its "Vestone", "Verona" and "Val Chiese" Battalions gave proof of their war qualities in spite of the adverse weather conditions. Operating with ability on a dangerous territory, in many battles in Posto Jalyj, Scheljakino, Maiakeiewa, Arnautowo and Nikolajewka, they always hindered the enemy forces supported by armoured vehicles. Thanks to their valour, spirit of abnegation, courage and enthusiasm, they crushed the enemy troops limiting their violent advance and opening a way to save Italian and allied units. The three battalions, faithful to their ancient tradition, went beyond their heroic victorious war past with legendary valour. On the Greek front, in fifty days of battle against the enemy, the 5^th Alpine Regiment with its "Morbegno", "Tirano" and "Edolo", overpassing difficult weather and territorial conditions, faced the enemy heroically. In spite of the consistent losses, it continued to fight for the honour of the Homeland and according to the strong alpine tradition. Later on another important mountain area, it reaffirmed its fame of warrior valour with glorious and tenacious defences and victorious offensives. Extraordinary example of great military values. (Uplands of Morava, Dushar, Varri Lamit, Cuka and Liquerit, Cuka and Greves, Guri i Prer, Bregu I Math, Sqimari, 14^th November – 30^th December 1940; Pupait, Guri I Topit, January-April 1941).

For the valour and tenacity of the "Morbegno" Battalion that resisted against the enemy forces in spite of numerous losses and maintained important positions in epic defence. (Monte Fior – Castelgomberto, 5^th – 7^th – 8^th June 1916. To the "Morbegno" Battalion).

For the proof of valour of the "Vestone" Battalion in the battle of Assaba on 23^rd March 1913. (To the "Vestone" Battalion).

Silver Medal to the Merit

Decree of 5^th June 1910

It distinguished for hard work, courage and abnegation in rescuing people hit by the earthquake in the regions of Calabria and Sicily on 28^th December 1908.
