The Engineer Command was constituted on 10th September 2010 in Rome Cecchignola after the reorganization of the Operational Land Forces Supports, by the suppression of the Command Engineer Brigade of Udine and the Engineer School of Rome.
The Engineer Brigade had been formed on 1st December 1997 as Engineer Command Group, when the pre-existent Engineer Command of the 5th Army Corps was changed.
Assigned to the Operational Land Forces Supports Command, it had the 6th, 11th and 21st Engineer Pioneers, the 2nd Engineer Sappers Regiments and the 5th "Bolsena" Battalion.
It assumed at its ranks the Engineer Railway Pioneers and in the late 90s it lost the 11th and 21st Regiment and the 5th Battalion.
The Engineer School is the heir of the traditions of the "Cadet Complement Officers School" in Pavia and the "Engineer Central School" in Civitavecchia.
During the war events of September 1943 the two Schools had to suspend their activity that started again in 1944 with the Telegraphers Radio Connections Italian School in Nocera Inferiore (SA), of the Telegraphers School in Francavilla Fontana and the 232nd Artillery Battalion in Bracciano (RM).
The School was reconstituted on 1st March 1950 in Rome Cecchignola. Named Engineer School in September 1975, it assigned the position of Deputy Inspector for the Engineer Corps to the Commander.
At first it depended on the Engineer Inspectorate; then it passed at the dependencies of the Corps Inspectorate and since 1st March 2001 at the Schools Command, originated by the merger of the Corps Inspectorate and the Schools Inspectorate when it became a component of the Operational Land Forces Supports.
