It was the first to arrive in the areas hit by the disastrous earthquake with men and vehicles to save human lives and restore the communication links. With a daily hard work it contributed to restore the faith in the future among the populations hit by the disaster. Example of high civil and military virtues and human solidarity. Silver Cross to the Army Merit

On 25th May 1990 the 6th Pioneers Engineer Battalion was entrusted to support the activities for the organization of the football championships "Italy 90". Passing over technical and organizational difficulties, the Battalion built a Bailey bridge in 48 hours, raising appreciation by the sport Organization and the national Press. At the end of the activity the "Trasimeno" Battalion urgently intervened to ensure the viability between the Aurelia road and the town of Fregene. These two interventions were part of a series of interventions in which the Battalion distinguished in the operational activities as well as rescue operations for natural disasters in favour of the populations hit by earthquake or flooding in Friuli, Campania, Lazio, Basilicata and Umbria. The results reached highlighted the discipline, spirit of sacrifice, high professionalism and operability of the Battalion in any situation. (Rome, 25th May 1990 – Fregene, 9th June 1990).
