"Per ogni ponte una superba sfida"
The traditions of the 2nd Pontoons Engineer Regiment are linked to the 4th Pontoons Engineer Regiment constituted on 1st January 1883. Named in different ways, it participated in the Wars of Independence, in the Campaign of Crimea, in the repression of brigandage and in the conquest of Rome. During the First World War its units were deployed both on the national territory and in Albania and Macedonia.
On 15th May 1933, in the same day, the 4th Regiment was dissolved and the 2nd Regiment constituted. Between 1935 and 1936 it was in Eastern Africa for the wars in Eritrea and Somalia. During the Second World War, between 1940 and 1943, it intervened in Northern Africa and Russia. After the events determined by the armistice, the 2nd Pontoons Engineer Regiment was dissolved.
Reconstituted on 15th December 1949 in Piacenza, the Regiment was organized on one battalion.
Along with the regular operational and training activities, the Regiment intervened ti rescue the population hit by natural disasters such as the flooding in Polesine in November 1951, the flooding in Tuscany and Emilia Romagna in November 1966 and the earthquake in Friuli in 1976; it also carried out intervention of public utility.
