History and traditions

​The Training Units Group was constituted in Capua on 8th October 2004; led by a Brigadier General at first and later by a Major General, it is at the dependencies of the Commander of the Training and Application School of the Army. On the framework of a reorganization of the educational-training area, the General Staff of the Army has given orders for:

  • on 20th July 2000, the acquisition of the “O. Salomone” Barracks in Capua by the Military Air Force  and the reactivation of the efficiency of the infrastructure entrusted to a Command constituted on 4th September 2000;

  • on 3rd December 2001, the establishment of a Command for the implementation of infrastructural projects to increase the welcome capacity of the structure. Those projects permitted to move the 47th "Ferrara" Volunteers Training Regiment (from Barletta) and the 17th "Acqui" Volunteers Training Regiment (from Sora) to the office in Capua;

  • on 8th October 2004, the suppression of the Command established in 2001 and the contemporary formation of the Training Units Group in Capua that before was situated in Viterbo. In particular, in that location, the Deputy Commander of the Non-Commissioned Officers School was also the Commander of the Training Units Group on which the Commanders of the fifth Volunteers Training Regiments depended: the 17th “Acqui”, the 47th “Ferrara”, the 80th “Roma”, the 85th “Verona” and the 235th “Piceno”;

  • on 1st July 2005, the inclusion of the three Recruits Training Regiments (the 1st “San Giusto”, the 78th “Lupi di Toscana”, the 123rd “Chieti”) in the Training Units Group. On 1st April 2006 the 57th “Abruzzi” Battalion and the 91st “Lucania” Battalion were also incorporated;

  • on 18th September 2006, the reorganization of the Training Units Group: the Commander became Major General, the Deputy Commander became Branch Commander and the General Staff of the Group was constituted. In brief, on 31st December 2006, the Group was constituted by 10 Units (regiments and battalions):

    • 1st “S. Giusto” Regiment - Trieste;

    • 17th “Acqui” Volunteers Training Group - Capua;

    • 47th “Ferrara” Volunteers Training Group - Capua;

    • 78th “Lupi di Toscana” Regiment - Florence;

    • 80th “Rome” Volunteers Training Group - Cassino;

    • 85th “Verona” Volunteers Training Group - Verona;

    • 123rd “Chieti” Regiment - Chieti;

    • 235th “Piceno” Volunteers Training Group - Ascoli Piceno;

    • 57th “Abruzzi” Battalion - Sulmona;

    • 91st “Lucania” Battalion - Potenza

    that had to ensure the basic training of the Volunteers in fixed conscription, in short conscription in permanent service and of the Sergenats of the Italian Army;

  • on 1st January 2008, the passage of the 80th “Rome” Volunteers Training Group - Cassino to the dependencies of the Non-Commissioned Officers School of the Army;

    • on 31st March 2008: the dissolution of the 1st "San Giusto" Regiment - Trieste and of the 78th "Lupi di Toscana" Regiment - Firenze;

    • on 18th November 2009: the dissolution of the 91st “Lucania” Battalion - Potenza;

    • on 30th September 2012: the dissolution of the 123rd “Chieti” Regiment - Chieti;

    • on 31st March 2013: the dissolution of the 57th “Abruzzi” Battalion - Sulmona.​
