Heir and guardian of a tradition of duty and sacrifice, the Automotive Corps never stopped in five years of hard struggle; by the example of its fallen soldiers it drew the impetus for preparing new vehicles to use in battle and it fought with infantryman and artillerymen. It paid a large price in blood in the sandy tracks of Africa, in the steppe on the Russian front, in Albania, in the reconquered territories of Italy (Northern and Eastern Africa, Albania, Russian front, War of Liberation: 10th June 1940 – 9th May 1945).

During the campaign in a mountain territory, almost without roads, it was able to perform the most difficult tasks thanks to its high sense of valour and sacrifice. It marked the way for convoys with its blood also through the fighting. (Italian-Ethiopian War, 3rd October 1935 – 5th May 1936).

In occasion of the earthquake that on 23rd November 1980 struck the regions of Campania and Basilicata, the Automotive Army Corps intervened promptly with efficiency with about 2,800 men (Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers and specialized civilian personnel) and 2,750 vehicles, carrying out about 2,300,000 km for 7,855 missions. Since 24th November it organized a Regional Logistic Centre that arranged for the storage of rescue materials from the national and international territory and their subsequent distribution in the disaster areas. Thanks to the rapid intervention of the Automotive Corps, the spirit of sacrifice and sense of duty of its personnel, the expertise of specialized personnel to ensure the efficiency of the vehicles and the young conscripts drivers that drove every day and every night in difficult weather conditions and prohibitive environmental situations, it guaranteed the operational efficiency for: transporting prefabricated buildings, containers and caravans as well as 12,000 tons of essential materials; evacuating populations from devastated areas; evacuating injured people from civilian hospitals and airports to admit them to equipped hospitals; recovering and transporting furnishings; supporting all units in the vast area of intervention. Great example of civilian and military virtues, with high technical skills and a generous and courageous altruism, receiving praise, admiration and gratitude by the civilian Authorities and the rescued populations and contributing to increase the prestige of the Army. Heir of a tradition of efficiency, sacrifice and dedication to duty, in an intervention to support the Albanian population decide by the international community, the Automotive Corps has given its essential contribution to the Italian contingent that was helping a Country tested by socio-political disturbances and by an unstable economical situation. In that context the Corps has carried out a constant humanitarian activity, contributing to the success of the mission and to the strengthening international role of Italy. In those circumstances it has shown its high professionalism and generous commitment, renewing the prestige of the Corps and its Flag. Albania, 18th September 1991 – 20th March 1993.

For more than two years it has been composed of a compact unit of means and men that wanted to win, facing any alternate events on the African front with faith and tenacious bravery. With hard work it has made new vehicles for the battle on the Marmaric front, fighting with artillerymen and infantrymen and preceding sometimes the troops; in that way it has guaranteed the promptness of supplies to continue the conflict, also giving blood contribution (Northern Africa, 1st November 1940 – 25th January 1943). It has performed the most difficult tasks for eight months of operations in a territory without roads and almost impassable, with high sense of duty and sacrifice, with discipline and great spirit. For five months of bitter campaign on the Albanian-Greek and Albanian-Yugoslavian fronts it has faced all operational and logistic necessities overcoming any obstacle, even if it had an inadequate number of vehicles. With faith and unconcerned of the enemy offense, its men have written pages of roman virtues; it was possible to implement the manoeuvre and take advantage of the success to carry the Flag of Italy in enemy territory.
