The Engineer Flag was granted by Royal Decree of 23rd December 1900. Entrusted at first to the Engineer Inspectorate, it was then entrusted to the oldest Engineer Brigade in Rome. In the second post-war the Flag was entrusted to the Engineer School.

During the preparation for the Campaign and the operations, with expertise, tenacity and valour, it contributed to the victory and it opened new roads to the millenary Roman civilization (Italian-Ethiopian war, 3rd October 1935 – 5th May 1936).

It lavished sacrifices and heroisms for the Homeland with tenacity and modesty, digging trenches, braving the enemy and launching to the assault side by side with the infantrymen (War Campaign 1915 - 1918).

Faithful to the traditions, with hard work and solidarity, it intervened promptly in Friuli where an earthquake occurred and helped the population employing its personnel and vehicles. Digging and clearing rubble, it was able to save many people; through the realization of complex links it made possible and easy the organization of the rescues; building rapidly metallic bridges it restored the practicability on the main roads; it removed large landslides permitting the transit to isolated places; the systematic demolition of the damaged buildings and the organization of tent cities created possible conditions of life for the survivors. Later it was in charge of providing for shelters to the homeless and it worked hardly in isolated steep snowy areas. For these reasons it has deserved the admired gratitude by all the people of Friuli to whom it instilled strength and confidence for the reconstruction of their territory (Earthquake of Friuli – 1976).

During the Italian-Greek campaign, on an impervious territory, with tenacity and heroism, spirit of sacrifice and abnegation, it performed all its duties and fought alongside with infantrymen. Second to none for audacity, valour, fervor of energy, works and sacrifices: example and promise of glory (Greek-Albanese front, 28th October 1940).

In occasion of serious floods, it intervened promptly with personnel and vehicles; with commendable solidarity and spirit of sacrifice it performed a rescue work of the population saving many human lives. With immense effort and in adverse meteorological conditions, it prepared tent cities for the homeless and restored the viability and the communication. Showing its professionalism, extraordinary abnegation and great technical capabilities, it contributed to the gradual return to normality giving comfort and confidence to people. With a tradition of interventions in favour of the community, the Engineer is constantly committed to the rescue of populations in hardship, with spirit of sacrifice and abnegation; it also contributed to provide security and comfort to the Country. In all its activities, the Engineer personnel has always been appreciated for the undisputed professionalism, great altruism, remarkable sense of duty and unceasing dedication. Thanks to its work for preventing or decreasing damages of a public or private disaster, it has increased the heritage of virtues of the Italian Army inspiring feelings of respect and gratitude in all the Nation.
