The Engineer Corps originates from the Technical Services, formed in 1910 for the Artillery, in 1930 for the Service of the Motor Vehicles Department and in 1960 for the Technical Chemical Physical Service and the Signals.
The law on 20th September 1980 instituted the role of Technical Corps that gathered the roles of the single Technical Services; with an internal memo of the General Staff of the Army in 1981, the Technical Corps of the Army was constituted. The Officers of the new Corps carried out activities in the sectors of research and development, revision and maintenance of the materials, professional training and update of civilian and military technical personnel.
On 1st January 1998 /Legislative Decree n. 490 of 30th December 1997) the name Technical Corps was changed into Engineer Corps of the Army.
